Description:
Thyme Linalool (Thymus vulgaris ct linalool ) is native to Southern Europe and has a worldwide distribution. Thyme Linalool (Thymus vulgaris ct linalool) is the most commonly available Thyme Essential Oils. Thymus vulgaris ct linalool is usually referred to as Sweet thyme. It tends to be amongst the most gentle and safe while Thyme Vulgaris ct thymol contains more thymol which is more pungent.
Within the species Thymus vulgaris, there are seven different chemotypes of Thyme. The most common chemotypes are as under:
1. Linalool type
2. Thymol type
3. Geraniol type and
4. Carvacrol type
Out of the four Thymus vulgaris chemotypes, the essential oil produced by Linalool and Thymol type are most popular.
At the higher altitudes between 1,000 and 1,200 meters, the linalool chemotype is found. Thymus vulgaris ct Linalool prefers the sun and the plant is indigenous to the Mediterranean and neighboring countries, Northern Africa, and parts of Asia. It is now cultivated and distilled in Spain, France, Israel, Morocco, the UK, and Portugal. The complete plant is producing a sweet, herbaceous, and slightly balsamic fragrance. Harvesting is normally done in late September when the linalool content is at its peak.
Thyme linalool essential oil is extracted from the leaves and flowering tops by steam distillation. The yield is from 0.4 to 0.6%. The essential oil is pale yellow. Thyme linalool essential oil contains Linalool (76.2%) and Linalyl acetate (14.3%).
In perfumery, this oil is used as a middle note.
