Description:
Tangerine (Citrus reticulate) is an evergreen tree, a native of China; it was spread to Europe, America, and Italy.

Tangerine belongs to the Rutaceae family, bears bright orange, sweet citrus fruit, and white flowers. Tangerine grows well in all frost-free tropical and sub-tropical regions.

It can be grown in a wide variety of well-drained medium or light loamy soils with a pH of 6.0 to 8.0 are ideal for cultivation. It is propagated by seeds as well as vegetatively propagated also by budding. Seedlings are mostly transplanted in the month of July to August after the commencement of the monsoon. Seedlings are generally planted in pits of 50 cm. X 50 cm. X 50 cm. size in a square system with a spacing of 4.5 to 5.5 meters, accommodating 350 to 500 plants/ha. Irrigation is also required at an interval of 10 to 15 days during the winter season, but during the summer season at an interval of 5 to 6 days.

The common method of extraction of essential oil is by cold-pressed of Tangerine Peel and the yields of essential oil vary from 1.5 to 3.5%. The essential oil contains high levels of Limonene which have stimulating and mood-enhancing properties. It is used in perfumery as a top note.
