Description:
Sugandh kokila (Cinnamomum glaucescens) is an evergreen tree that is native to the Himalayan regions in Nepal, Bhutan, and India. In Nepal, it grows wild in the districts of Sallyann, Rolpa, and Dang.

Sugandha Kokila is commonly known as Cinnamon berry all around the globe.

This large-sized tree has the potential to grow in plains as well as hilly areas. Propagation of the plant is by seed. The seed ripens from October to the end of November and it is necessary to sow the seed immediately after collecting them because the seeds lose all their viability within about two months.

Distillation of Sugandha kokila essential oil is done by steam distillation of the dried berries of Cinnamomum glaucescens and is conducted in Nepal itself. The major constituents of the oil are 1,8-cineole, methyl cinnamate, α-terpineol, a-pinene & ß- pinene.

Sugandh kokila essential oil can be used as Analgesic, Anti-bacterial, Antispasmodic, Antioxidant, Anti-viral Decongestant and Expectorant.

Methyl cinnamate,1,8-cineole a-pinene, ß- pinene, camphor, sabinene, eucalyptol, a- terpineol, ß-phellandrene (trace), ß–myrcene, p-Cymene, linalool.
