Description:
Ravintsara tree is native to China, Japan, and Taiwan. Distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of North America, Central America, South America, Asia, Oceania, and Australasia. Cinnamomum camphora aromatic trees belonging to the laurel family, Lauraceae.

Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora) is an evergreen tree that grows up to 20–30 meters tall. The leaves have a glossy, waxy appearance and bright green. It produces clusters of black berry-like fruit. It has a pale bark that is a very rough texture.

This oil is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves. The oil is a slightly sweet balsamic odor similar to rosemary.

The major constituents are 1,8-cineole, sabinene, alpha-pinene and beta-pinene, beta-carophyllene, terpineol, and terpenyl acetate. The 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol) content is very high about 45-50% whereas in Ravensara essential oil 1,8-cineole content is very low (2-5%). The two oils are clearly very different aromatically, and in chemical composition also.

Application:
~ Ravintsara oil is antibacterial, antifungal, anti-rheumatic, antiviral, decongestant, cicatrisant, expectorant, immune tonic, and neurotonic.
~ It is used for the treatment of cough, cold, influenza, asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis viral infections, and other respiratory ailments.

Aromatherapy:
This oil can be used in massage, inhalation, and diffusion and promotes sleep, reduce depression, stress, relieve muscular aches, pains, strengthens the immune system, cure influenza, relaxing the nervous system, helps to soothe allergies and infections.
