Description:
Peru Balsam originates from El Salvador. It attains up to 25 meters in height. It can be found in a very extended area, from southern Mexico, Central America, and even as southbound as Argentina. Nowadays, it has been introduced to southern Florida, Indonesia, India, and West Africa.

The balsam is traditionally harvested in El Salvador from January to May in the dry season, and from May to September during the rainy season. To incise the trunk, up to a certain height from where the fragrant liquid will run and collected. This collected liquid gets solidified and turned into balsam.

Balsam is a complex mixture of 25-30% resin and 60-65% essential oil. The balsam then undergoes extraction/ distillation to get the Peru balsam essential oil. Peru balsam essential oil is a pale yellow liquid.

Major Constituents:
Benzyl cinnamate, cinnamyl cinnamate, Coniferyl cinnamate, benzyl benzoate, Benzyl formate, vanillin, cinnamyl alcohol, cinnamaldehyde, farnesol, nerolidol, β‐Caryophyllene.

Application:
~ Peru balsam oil may relieve eczema, when used with a carrier oil, dry chapped skin, rashes, sores, pruritus, wounds, rheumatism, sore nipples bedsores, and diaper rash.
~ It is also used as a fixative in the perfumery industry.

Aromatherapy:
Used in diffuser, inhalation, and massage therapy to relieve symptoms of nervous tension, stress, colds, cough, flu, relieves in respiratory ailments.
