Description:
The Myrtle is a small evergreen tree, native to the Mediterranean and northern Africa. It is also found in Turkey, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, Algeria, Spain, Tunisia, Morocco, Corsica, southern England, and the warmer regions of North America.

The plant may grow more than 6 m high with many branches, a brownish-red bark their leaves are thick, sharp, and pointed having several small essential oil-bearing glands.

The Myrtle essential oil is extracted from the leaves and twigs. The yield of essential oil from 0.12% to 1.0 %.

The color of essential oil may differ from country to country, it may be green or red. Green Myrtle is from Corsica. In this oil, Linalool content is higher than Red Myrtle. The Red Myrtle is usually from North Africa having higher Cineole content. Both green and red essential oils are having similar properties and applications. Both Green and Red Myrtle Essential oils having a light, fresh, uplifting aroma, but Red Myrtle essential oil is a little bit more camphorous due to its significantly higher 1,8 Cineole content.

Myrtle Essential oils are regarded as gentle oil that is regenerating, astringent, and anti-allergenic. Myrtle essential oil is non-toxic, non-irritating, and non-sensitizing.

Odor profile:
Green Myrtle essential oil is sweet, fresh, green, and slightly camphorous in the aroma. Red Myrtle essential oil smells camphorous than does Green Myrtle essential oil due to its higher 1,8- Cineole content.

Pinene, Myrtenol, 1,8-Cineole, Myrtenyl Acetate, Limonene, Linalool, a-Terpineol, Geraniol, Geranyl acetate, Methyl eugenol, p-Cymene, Camphene.
