Description:
Boswellia serrata is a tree native to India, Africa, and Arabia. There are four main species of Boswellia which are Boswellia carteri, Boswellia serrata, Boswellia frereana, and Boswellia papyrifera producing true frankincense oleoresin.

Frankincense oleoresin is tapped from the trees by striping and letting the exuded resin bleed out and harden. Boswellia serrata is a plant that produces Indian frankincense. It is also known as Indian oli-banum and Salai guggul. Several species of Boswellia trees each produce a slightly different type of Frankincense oleoresin. These differences are due to differences in soil and climate conditions.

The essential oil of frankincense is produced by steam distillation of the tree resin. The oleoresin of frankincense contains 5-10% essential oil.

Odor profile:
Rich, balsamic, woody, sweet aroma

Major Constituents:
α-pinene alpha-Thujene, Sabinene, alpha-Pinene, carvone, and α-copaene.

Application:

~ Frankincense oil is commonly used in face masks, Scrubs, and anti-inflammatory lotions & creams. It is used in the perfume formulations for making fine fragrances.
