Native to Europe, mostly in southern and central Europe. It is also found in Russia North and Central America, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, and Yugoslavia.

Fir needle oil is distilled from the twigs and needles of various members of the coniferous families like Picea, Pinus, Abies, and Larix which are all commonly called fir needle oil. It is, therefore, dealing with a specific plant. Steam distillation of the needles and twigs produces essential oil from 0.20 to 0.40%.

Fir needle essential oil has a pleasant, balsamic aroma having monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, alpha-pinene beta-pinene, delta-3-carene, and bornyl acetate.

sesquiterpenes, beta-pinene, delta-3-carene, alpha-pinene, and terpene ester bornyl acetate.

Application:
~ The therapeutic properties of Fir needle essential oil are analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, antiviral, stimulating, anti-tussive, diuretic, antioxidant, and astringent.
~ Fir needle oil is also used in the manufacturing of air fresheners, soaps, industrial fragrances, hair oils, skin creams, and body lotions, etc.
~ The astringent properties of this oil are effective in treating acne, cuts, injuries, sores, wounds, and insect bites, etc.
~ The antioxidant properties of Fir needle oil fights against the free radicals and prevents premature aging.
~ Fir needle oil contains alpha-pinene, alpha-humulene, and beta-caryophyllene which were effective against the gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

Aromatherapy:
Fir needle oil is used in inhalers and massage in the treatment of colds, fever, cough, sinusitis, bronchitis, rheumatism, muscular aches, rheumatic, and muscular pain. Few drops of Fir oil added to the diffuser or burner can refresh, revitalize, and reduces emotional stress.
