Description:
Eucalyptus smithii is endemic to southeastern Australia and also produced in South Africa, Swaziland, (Zimbabwe), India, and other countries of the world. In India, it is cultivated in Nilgiri hills in the Western Ghats region of Tamil Nadu.
Eucalyptus smithii is also known as Gully Gum.
Eucalyptus smithii oil is produced by steam distillation of fresh leaves and the oil yield is 1.0-2.2%. The oil is high in 1,8- cineole constituent more or less at par to the oil of Eucalyptus globules. This oil is as good as Eucalyptus globulus.

Major Constituents:
1,8-cineole, alpha-pinene, limonene, alpha-terpineol, Aromadendrene, Eudesmol, Cineol, pinene, cymene, limonene, phellandrene, and terpinene.
Application:
~ Eucalyptus Smithii is lighter than Eucalyptus Globulus and has a fresh, sweet, soft, and pleasing aroma than other species of Eucalyptus. Eucalyptus smithii oil can be used as Analgesic, Decongestant, Anti-bacterial, and Anti-viral. The oil is also used in the preparation of industrial fragrances.
Aromatherapy:
Like Eucalyptus globulus essential oil, the oil of Eucalyptus smithii is suitable for respiratory infections, muscular and joint pain. It can be used in inhalers, diffuser,s and massage oils.
