Description:
Davana (Artemisia pallens), a shrub that is native to South India. In India, it is cultivated in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. India holds a key position in the production of Davana oil and exported to France, the USA, Germany, Japan and the Netherlands, and many more countries.
Davana essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowers. Flower heads are the major contributors to oil than leaves. Flower heads contain 0.25 to 0.4% essential oil.
Odor profile:
Sweet fruity, slightly woody.
Major Constituents:
Davanone, Nerol, Davana furans, Geraniol, Hydroxy-davanone, Isodavanone, Methyl Cinnamate, Ethyl Cinnamate, , Davanic Acid, Cinnamyl Cinnamate.
Application:
~ Davana oil is used in making perfumes of sweet and fruity fragrances.
~ It is also used in viral infections like Coughs, Colds, Bronchial Congestion, Influenza, and other ailments as Antidepressant, Antiseptic, Disinfectant, etc.
Aromatherapy:
Inhalation of its vapor for relaxing the mind, combating anxiety, stress, depression, and anger. However, massaging with carrier oil gives relief to the contractions in muscles as well as blood vessels thereby inducing a night of good sleep.
