Description:
Cypress trees are native to Asian and Mediterranean countries, commonly referred to as the Mediterranean Cypress. Cupressus sempervirens trees naturally grow throughout the coastal Mediterranean region. It is cultivated in Spain, France, Morocco Corsica, and throughout the world.
Cypress essential oil is steam distilled from the needles, twigs, and occasionally the cones of the conifer. Cypress oil yield ranging from 1.2 – 1.5 %.
Major chemical constituents of Cypress oil are Cedrol, Carene, Cadinene, Camphene, Sabinene, Myrcene, Linalool, and Terpinolene. Cedrol content in the oil, contributing to its aromatic profile. Higher cedrol content gives a woody note whereas lower cedrol content gives terpene aroma.
Cypress oil is a woody, slightly smoky, resinous, and refreshing masculine odor.
In perfumery, cypress oil is mainly utilized in making chypres, amber, fougeres, and colognes type of fragrances. Cypress oil has many health benefits, as it has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties. It is also known for its astringent properties. The Cypress essential oil is now a day’s generally used in perfumery, especially men’s cosmetics.
