Description:
A native of Sri Lanka but cultivated in Indonesia, India, and in tropical regions of the other part of the world.
Cinnamon leaf oil and Cinnamon bark oil both originate from the same genus of tree, but both oils are produced from different parts of the plant.
Both the oils have different phytochemicals and their properties are also different even they can be used to treat different illnesses.
Cinnamon leaf oil is cheaper than bark oil and is used in the flavor industry. It is also used as a source of eugenol for the preparation of synthetic vanillin.
Cinnamon leaf oil is obtained by steam distillation of cinnamon leaves. Oil yield from the leaf is 0.5 -1.8%. The major constituent of oil is Eugenol which constitutes 60–90%. Cinnamon leaf oil is graded in the market on the basis of its eugenol content.
