Description:
Sugandh Mantri (Homalomena aromatica) essential oil is originally found in India and the Indian subcontinent belonging to the family Araceae. In India, Sugandh Mantri is naturally localized in the northeastern region and distributed in Assam, lower altitudes of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Tripura.

The plant is shade-loving, slow-growing, with stout and tough stem. Sugandh Mantri prefers acidic soils of pH from 5 to 6.5. The average height of the plant is from 0.40-0.80 meters. On a dry basis, the yield of the rhizome is about 4,000 kg/ha. The essential oil is extracted from the root (rhizome) by the process of steam distillation. Steam distillation of the rhizome yields a yellow colored essential oil from 0.8% to 1.5% on a dry weight basis.

The main compounds were Linalool (35-55%) & Terpinen-4-01(12-16%). Sugandh Mantri essential oil is an exotic aroma with calming properties.

Application:
~ Sugandh Mantri essential oil is used to develop exotic fragrances for Soaps, Cosmetics, and also for pharmaceutical preparations.
~ The oil is anti-inflammatory, antidepressant & anti-spasmodic, for treating cough, cold, helps in fighting infections and reducing pain.

Aromatherapy:
Sugandh Mantri essential oil has a mesmerizing aroma which makes its use in aromatherapy applications. It is also used in emotional stress, meditation, calming the nerves, and acting as an antidepressant.
