Cultivation and Harvesting:
Marjoram is native to the Mediterranean region, southwest Asia, and northern Africa, but commercially grown in southern Europe, Cyprus, Turkey, United States Western Asia, and Arabian Peninsula.

Cultivation of Marjoram requires dry, warm, well-drained soil. The pH of the soil should be from 5 to 8.5, pH 7 is the ideal for its growth. Marjoram is cultivated for its aromatic leaves for its essential oil. The leaves are smooth, simple, petiolated, ovate to oblong-ovate. The texture of the leaf is smooth due to the presence of numerous hairs.

The plant is harvested as flowering begins and leaves and flower top can be used fresh or dried for the extraction of essential oil and the essential oil yield 0.5 to 1%.

The essential oil is used to treat muscular pain, bronchial complaints, arthritis, sprains, and stiff joints. The oil is a Muscle relaxant and extensively used in aromatherapy.

Application:
~ Marjoram essential oil is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and extensively used in Muscular and abdominal pain, Spasms, Stress, Anxiety, Insomnia Headaches, Gastrointestinal disorders, and Constipation.

Aromatherapy:
Marjoram oil used in Creams, Shampoo, Massage oil will give relief in dandruff, muscle and joint pain, acne, toothache, and gum disease, wounds, ringworm, rosacea, insect bites, and as an insect repellant.
