Description:
Eucalyptus camaldulensis is also known as red gum. This tree is endemic to Australia. Cultivated in the Mediterranean region, particularly in Spain and Morocco. Planting in the tropics, especially in South-East Asia, Mexico, India, and Brazil, is increasing day by day. In India, it is cultivated in the Nilgiri Hills in the Western Ghats region of Tamil Nadu.
Essential oil is extracted by distillation of leaves which contain 0.5 and 1.00 % essential oils. Major constituents of essential oils are1,8-cineole, p-cymene, β-pinene, γ-terpinene, pinocarveol, ledol, and terpinen-4-ol.
Odor profile:
Strong herbaceous aroma with soft wood undertones.
Major Constituents:
1.8 cineole, limonene, a-pinene, b-pinene, p-cymene, spathulenol, pinocarveol, terpinen-4-ol, phellandral, aromadendrene, a-phellandrene, cumin aldehyde, allo-aromadendrene , myrtenol , a-terpinol, globulol.
Application:
~ Eucalyptus camaldulensis oil is an insect repellant if dilute oil applied to the body.
~ Efficient for flu, coughs, colds, asthma, and bronchitis.
~ Eucalyptus is a good antiseptic and disinfectant for small wounds.
Aromatherapy:
If 1to 2% Eucalyptus camaldulensis oil added to massage oil will help relieve muscular pains and strains, as it gives a warming effect on muscles.
